Sometimes I run across only bare bones information about future releases, whether on social media or in my inbox, information that raises more questions than it answers:
• U.S. publisher Restoration Games has announced that Unmatched: Cobble & Fog and Unmatched: Robin Hood vs. Bigfoot will likely go out of print in 2023, with the game being placed “in the vault” and not scheduled for reprint. Here’s an excerpt from the press release announcing this decision:
And here’s where we reach the speculation aspect of this item: “Jacobson revealed that five new sets will be released in both 2023 and 2024, including an unannounced licensed property.”
What do I expect to see? Unmatched: Chunnel Funnel, a two-player set in which Julia Child and Gordon Ramsay attempt to annihilate one another on a kitchen-themed game board with doughnuts and other pastries. You heard it here first!
• In early February 2023, designer Bruno Faidutti posted the cover of Grail Cup without publisher Matagot having yet revealed any information about the game in question:
What’s going on in this game? Speculate as you like!
• Along similar lines, with Festival International des Jeux taking place in Canes, France on February 24-26, 2023, I’ve been seeing plenty of announcements along these lines:
In this case, French publisher KYF Edition will preview titles due out later in the year: Diferencio from Aymeric Duperray and Victor Saumont (July 2023) and Les Toits de Paris (“The Roofs of Paris”) from Ludovic Maublanc (October 2023).
I’ve yet to play anything from KYF Edition, and the first two authors have no published titles to their name, so I don’t have much to go on here. Do you? Can you tell me anything about these games?
• In pics from Spielwarenmesse 2023 from Knizia Games mascot Cotta Lemur lies this image of a work-in-progress version of Reiner Knizia‘s FITS along with representatives of Korean publisher Happy Baobab:
The speculation kind of writes itself for this item, but I thought I’d include it anyway since nothing official has been announced.
• In late January 2023, German publisher Hans im Glück posted this image of El Grande, writing, “Why did we have El Grande on the table today? We definitely listened to you!”
Meeples in Spain? Time for more speculation…
