With SPIEL ’22 behind us, I’m taking a short break to recover from the madness, so to celebrate let me survey a few of the many party games that have hit my inbox recently.
• On October 1, 2022, Hasbro released Wordle: The Party Game, a 2-4 player game that plays much like the Wordle online puzzle, except now you’re competing against others directly to identify a five-letter word in the fewest tries possible. The fewer attempts you need, the lower your score.
• In the 3-10 player game WatchMojo: A Super Fan Top 10 Party Game from Luma Games, you submit entries to Top 10 Lists about pop culture subjects to be judged and ranked by the game round’s ranker.
• Love Is Dead is another Hasbro title, with this September 2022 release being billed as a “light strategy party card game” for 2-5 players. The pitch:
Once a player matches with three Boos, the game ends, and whoever scores the most points from their matches wins!
Wait, is one of those ghosts offering you a ride on its ethereal booty?
